Fall For Ontario

I stayed in Ontario this October and enjoyed the colors and attractions of three places near Toronto.

Stratford on October 15th

Just 2 hours from Toronto, the city of Stratford is known for its theatre festival that attracts thousands of tourists. Stratford is named after the city of Stratford upon Avon in England, the city where Shakespeare is from.

My friends and I are going to see a famous play by one of my favorite authors, Michel Tremblay, les Belles-Sœurs. The action takes place in a working-class neighbourhood of Montreal in the 1960s and features working-class women who do not have an easy life.

The Theatre is grandiose and surrounded by greenery and a beautiful river. We are a little late and we will have the opportunity to walk after the play.

It’s Louis’ day and we take the time to walk by the river. The air is fresh.

We head to the center of Stratford with its beautiful buildings.

What I like about Stratford is that it has kept its early 20th century look and we walk before the rain start.

It’s time to go back to Toronto and I would probably go back to Stratford in the fall—

One day in Picton.

I’m visiting my friends in Prince Edward County. I went to SandBank in 2017, but didn’t explore much of the rest of the area.

This time we hike to the municipal park of presqu’ile and there marshes and different vegetation. A perfect grey day.The Bay of Quinte is very picturesque.

We spend the morning in nature.

Picton is an old town by Ontario Standards(1780) and the main street witness a rich heritage.

We stop at 555 Brewing and it is full at 2 pm. The selection of pizza and beers is quite impressive. We have pizza all topped with beef and BBQ, olives and pretzels as a side.

The rest of the afternoon will be devoted to orchards and vineyards. PEC is a wine region known for its wines and ciders.

We end with a glass of Merlot at Huff Estate. There is a beautiful garden and plenty of atmosphere.

A beautiful autumn day. I would be back for the summer and swim in Sandbank.

One day at the Evergreen BrickWorks

The last weekend of autumn is pleasantly sunny in Toronto. My friends and I take advantage of the beautiful temperature and fall colors to walk the Belt Line to Mount Pleasant Cemetery and finish at Evergreen Brickwork.

We start our urban hike with the Belt Line, an old railway converted into a pedestrian and biking trail  in 1989. From here we head to Mount Pleasant Cemetery which is also a historic green space of the City of Toronto. Canada’s 10th Prime Minister Mackenzie king and Eaton founder Timothy Eaton are buried at the cemetery.

Toronto is a city of ravines and we are now heading to the brickworks site: Evergreen Brickwork is a project of a 19th century abandoned brick factory turn into a sustainable, ecological and environmental energy center. There is also a market on Saturdays, shops, a café, a restaurant… It is a place I have frequented since its creation in 2010.

I really like the market even if it closes early (2PM) but we have time to have Turkish food at Turkish Gozleme for lunch. I choose a mixture of pancake and pita(Pida) garnished with spinach, cheese and beef. Excellent@@@ Plus, it’s warm enough to eat outside.

We continue our hike around the site to enjoy the colors and panorama of Toronto. We walked 15km and enjoy nature without leaving Toronto. An advantage of this great city.
